Earlier today I successfully started merge mining PLX on my own p2pool node, in addition to VTC & MON.
I've since seen that this is something that Simple Vert are working on introducing in the not too distant. I share the concerns of many others that the launch of MON has somewhat backfired, and caused greater centralization of mining pools. I don't like where it is going, so this post is my small contribution to helping people avoid the temptation to mine on the big pools, and instead embrace the awesomeness of p2pool.
Step 1: Set up your own p2pool node. This is essential, because you need to mine to wallets on the node. Excellent step-by-step guides for both windows and linux can be found at and (I used the windows one). Step 2: Install wallets for all three coins onto your node. You will need to write a.conf file for each coin and put it in the relevant folder for each coin in user app data roaming. As an example, the vertcoin one will look something like this: server=1 gen=0 rpcport=5899 rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcuser=YOURUSERNAME rpcpassword=AREALLYSTRONGPASSWORD For each coin, all you really need to change in the.conf file is the rpcport number. For MON use 6888, and for PLX use 7817.
Also, don't forget to start each wallet with the -server flag. The easiest way to do this is to create a shortcut on your desktop for each wallet and add -server to the file path. Add the --merged option for MON and PLX to the startup script for your node. For me on windows, this was a simple case of adding --merged --merged onto the end of the.bat file that I created in part 1. Start your node. Note that you will see error messages if you don't have all 3 wallets open with the -server flag. Point your miners at your node.
You will be pointing at stratum+tcp://NODEIPADDRESS:9171 (port number may need to change for p2pool 2 or 3), with username:YOURVTCADDRESS and password:ANYTHINGYOULIKE. For example, the start of my vertminer.conf file is: 'url': 'stratum+tcp://192.168.1.20:9171', 'user': 'VhLcjCg7Mwsf7vZPQmbCwagjS1ButwS4b4', 'pass': 'x' You're all done.
Since 11am GMT this morning, on top of my VTC & MON mining, I've mined 1650 PLX, which helps to sweeten the pot nicely. Also, unlike MON, PLX can actually be traded on an exchange already(for those looking to cover electricity costs, without having to cash out their precious VTC!). (Edited to tidy up bullet points) • • • • •. I just set this up on ubuntu (using all three wallet daemons). It was a piece of cake! Basically, to get the daemons up and running, clone their repositories: git clone git clone git clone Then build them all cd vertcoin/src/; make -f makefile.unix cd monocle/src/; make -f makefile.unix cd parallaxcoin/src/; make -f makefile.unix Then set up the config files for each of them as per the instructions provided, and finally launch all the daemons!./vertcoin/src/vertcoind --daemon./monocle/src/monocled --daemon./parallaxcoin/src/parallaxcoind --daemon The rest is all identical.
